David Nicol

Managing Director

David Nicol is the managing director at NB. He founded the business in 2002 after gaining a degree in Law from the University of Edinburgh.

David has extensive experience of planning and managing hundreds of digital projects for clients in Shetland, Orkney and further afield, and he oversees NB’s work programme to ensure quality control and client satisfaction across every job.

David is skilled at distilling complex technical subjects into an easy-to-understand format, and uses this ability when leading NB’s strategy work on large projects, particularly those relating to destination marketing, David is responsible for the continued growth of NB Communication, taking the agency forward by winning an increasing number of clients from throughout the UK from a base in the Northern Isles. He is particularly excited by the opportunities for NB to serve more clients in Orkney, and by the possibilities that have been opened up by NB opening a new Edinburgh office in 2016.

David highlights NB being rated as the 2nd best small agency in the UK for customer satisfaction in the Drum’s Digital Census in 2016 as a significant achievement, and a clear sign that a small agency in Shetland can compete extremely effectively against competition from anywhere else in the country.

David is hugely interested in the subject and practice of entrepreneurship, and was selected to attend the Entrepreneurial Development Programme at MIT in Boston in 2009. He has acted as both an advisor and judge for the Young Enterprise programme, as well as judging the Shell STEP awards. He is a former board member at Shetland Enterprise and panel member of Youth Business Scotland (formerly PSYBT).

David spends much of his spare time with his wife and three young sons. He is a keen footballer, and is also capable of playing golf to a decent standard. However, he spends an increasing amount of his ‘sport time’ coaching junior age groups and less time participating himself. He is a very keen supporter of the Shetland Folk Festival and various Up Helly Aa’s in Shetland.
